ANN SACKS® introduces Michael S Smith Cosmati

PORTLAND, Ore. (April 16, 2010) – At the 2010 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Chicago, ANN SACKS, a premier manufacturer and distributor of tile, stone and plumbing products, unveiled Michael S Smith Cosmati. These exclusive, handcrafted stone mosaics by internationally renowned interior designer, Michael S Smith, offer a breathtaking range of large format flooring.

Smith developed 10 striking and graphic patterns: Alexandria, Alhambra, Chanilly, Chantes, Crete, Emilio Grid, Fez, Palais Royal, Valencia, and Venice, each individually designed to transport a room into a stunning custom presentation. Each one-of-a-kind design draws inspiration from various elements of Greek, Moroccan and Parisian antiquities – including tapestries as well as parquet and other types of antique flooring.

One of the industry’s most respected talents, the award-winning Smith is highly sought-after by an international roster of residential and commercial clients for his delicate blend of European tradition and American modernism. “I always strive to impart an element of history into my designs,” said Smith. “For that reason, the ancient art of mosaics is an especially compelling medium to me.”

The large scale of Michael S Smith Cosmati is most at home in grand spaces, from residential foyers to hotel lobbies. Designed primarily as a flooring collection, the mosaics would also make stunning feature walls or shower surrounds. Meticulously cut by water-jet and then painstakingly assembled, each mosaic pattern is available in three finishes:

  • Antiqued: The signature of this collection, this exclusive hand-brushed finish evokes a weathered appearance as if it had been walked on for ages.
  • Honed: A satin-smooth finish with little to no gloss.
  • Polished: Rubbed to a high gloss, this finish offers a dramatic presentation.

The color palette of Michael S Smith Mosaics is represented by an extensive offering of 86 different colored natural stones – including premium marble, limestone, onyx and travertine – yielding infinite design possibilities.
